Active Duty Solider Opens Fire at Fort Stewart, GA

On 08/06/2025, an active duty sergeant stationed at Ft. Stewart, GA, home of the 3rd Infantry Division, opened fire in his housing unit injuring 5 other active duty soldiers. Authorities say the suspect was identified as Sergeant Quornelius Radford from Jacksonville, FL. Reports state the gunman was tackled by an unarmed soldier and he was held to the ground till law enforcement arrived while other soldiers went to aid the injured victims.

Authorities state Radford sent a text to his aunt shortly before the shooting stating "he was going to be in a better place." This raises many red flags for the motive of the shooter and what consequences are to follow. All five victims are stable and expected to make a full recovery. Ft. Stewart has a history of tragedies such as another similar incident approximately three years ago where a gunman opened fire and killed an Army Sergeant.

Authorities state they believe the shooting stemmed from an argument with a co-worker on base but it is unclear what the argument was about. Officials say Radford followed the person involved in the argument and shot him in the maintenance area and shot him in the chest before shooting for other bystanders. Mr. Radford had a previous DUI arrest in May. Radford had no deployments overseas.
